Ask Mr. Steve
Years ago (before I began brewing) I tasted a Jalapeno Beer. I'm not a big pepper fan, but this beer was refreshing with just enough of the jalapeno to give it an extra zing. I'd love to brew something like this. Any suggestions how to go about this?

Hi Brian, I've found the best way to use jalapeno in beer is to cut the jalapeno into long thin strips and put one in each bottle. Of course everyones tolerence for "hot stuff" is different. I think that is a good start and the sky is the limit. You can load it up with enough to blow your wazoo off if you want! Remember to use a low alpha hop just like you do when doing a fruit beer so the heat of jalapeno comes through. I've also found a lighter brew is better such as a low hopped Pale Ale or our Brewmutts Honey Lager. Thanks and Hoppy Brewin....Mr. Steve
