Brewmutt's Irish Red Ale

Classification: Irish Red Ale

Description

This recipe is just a good drinking, middle of the road beer. It is very mildly hopped and leans toward the malt sweetness. You can add one full oz of Perle hops to balance it more if you want. The Melanoidin malt gives this beer a beautiful red color. It will have you going back for more!

Ingredients

7 lbs Light Malt Extract
½  lb   Melanoidin Malt
½  lb   Crystal 10 L

¾  oz  Perle Hops (bittering) - 1 hour (6 – 7  HBU)
½  oz  Tettnang  Hops (finishing) last 3 minutes
Irish Moss - last  15  minutes

White labs WLP 013 London Ale Yeast  or safale s 04 dry yeast

Instructions

Put Melanoidin and Crystal malt in a muslin  bag and toss into your brew pot with cool water.Heat to a boil and remove grain. Add Malt extract. Stir while adding and when it comes back to a boil add the Perle hops and boil for 45 minutes. Add Irish moss and boil 10 more minutes. Then add ½ oz of Tettnang hops and boil 3 more minutes. Cool to 75 deg. And add yeast.
